Brittany Harris' Story

One girl who has gotten really involved in the cause is Brittany Harris. She saw a video one day about the lack of clean water in Africa. She saw this, and even though she was eight, she knew that she had to do something. She knew that she didn’t have the ability to just go dig them water wells, but she wasn’t powerless. She did what she knew how to do. She baked pies and and other desserts and started selling them. While a lot of people her age would just give up, she decided to help in the way that she knew that she had to help in any way possible. She continued doing this, after five years she raised $100,000  to go towards water wells in Africa and she got many of her friends and family involved. I think that this is a good example of ethical empathy because Harris saw this there was a problem thousands miles away and knew that she had to do the right thing. She did not see the problem happening to her neighbors, but she knew it was a problem that had to be fixed. Harris is very unique in this way because a lot of people will only get involved with a problem that will directly affect them, but by providing villages in Africa she is helping another community, not her own.
